For once the Live Music Hall was not in the hands of famous Bands but Fans. Invited by the Band 30 STM for recordings. Now they will by part of the next Album with their singing, clapping and stamping.
Cologne – “Everyone jump and stamp!” rings it in the Live Music Hall. And faithfully the many Ladies and few Gents do as radio jockey Jan-Christian Zeller asks.
Roughly 150 fans try to get a glimpse of the stage to watch the slightly hyperactive young man. Behind him on a big screen, larger than life is their favourite star: Jared Leto, singer of the band 30stm – and yes, also famous actor. Even thought the fans never get tired to mention that it is first and foremost the music and not the man they like.
The US Band had a special tread for their Fans: They can pride themselves to be a part of the next Album. And what fan does not dream of becoming immortal by being forever conserved on a CD?
With the so-called Global Summit that will take place in seven more cities around the world, this dream now becomes true.
After the jumping and stamping there is rhythmic clapping, whispering and screaming “yeah” on the schedule, to be followed by the last part: The Singing. Jared Leto shows how it is suppose to sound and the fans repeat it a couple of times before a sound engineer hits the record button. The lyrics are shown at the same time so everybody knows what to sing.
“I preferred to skip when it got to difficult!” admits Ulrike Herbst at the end of the event.
A couple of hours before the Summit a bunch of hardcore fans gathered at the Mediapark to promote the new Album. From all parts of Germany as well as from the Netherlands and Belgium they travelled to take their part. Many know each other either personally or via the many internet forums, it is a friendly and familiar atmosphere. Clad in style in the Band colours red, white and black, the fans let 900 red and white balloons find their way into the bright blue sky over Cologne, true to the Motto “Mars is coming”. Attached to every balloon is a small card with a request to the finder to please send an email to the Fanclub to let them know where the balloon came down again.
